Duties

THE HEAD MASTER

The responsible person in the Catechetical activities of Parish, after the Parish Priest and the Assistant Parish Priest, is the Catechism H.M. The H.M have to convey the instructions received from the Archdiocese with the Parish Priest to formulate matters of the Catechism activities in the parish.

1) All matters concerning the Catechism Department has to be discussed with the Parish Priest. Decisions can be taken only by full consent of the Parish Priest .

2) The prime duty of the Head Master is to lead the Catechism in the church with full faith and unity. If there is any difficulty occurs, it has to be reported to the Parish Priest and necessary action taken to resolve matters.

3) Have a cordial relationship with teachers, consult them and inform them all matters related to faith formation in time.

4) Ensure that all teachers carry out the instructions received from  the Archdiocese.

5) When matters relating to children arises according to rules of the POCSO Act, it should be informed to the Parish Priest and dealt with accordingly.

6) If the Catechetical Unit is doing any activities other than prescribed by the Archdiocesan Catechetical Commission, the same should be reported to the Archdiocesan Catechetical Commission.

7) Ensure the Catechism students do Sacrament of Reconciliation monthly. Assist the Vicar and make preparations for the same.

8) Keep in close touch with the PTA and keep them informed of the Catechetical activities.

9) All should cooperate the Forane activities and oblige the directions of the Forane Director.

10) Make sure that all teachers prepare teaching notes.

11) Ensure that all teachers take classes with teaching aids compulsorily.

12) Organize the assembly in the most active and disciplined manner with participation of teachers and children.

13) Inform teachers and students in advance about Exam related matters, Bible Quiz etc.

14) During the visit of promoters, welcome them cordially, cooperate with them and follow their instructions.

15) The term of office for HM will be three years. In unavoidable circumstances, Parish Priest  can extend it for one more year. It would be advisable to discuss this matter with the Archdiocesan Director.

THE ASSISTANT HEAD MASTER

Every Catechism unit should have an Assistant Head Master to assist the Head Master for faith formation activities.

THE SECRETARY

1) As per the instructions of the Parish Priest/ Head Master, convene the meetings, prepare and maintain the Meeting reports.

2) Maintain all the records especially  Class Registers, Teachers’ Register, Common Register and files in perfect order.

3) Secretary should maintain the Transfer Certificates (TC), Progress Cards, Communications received and send, Report Books of the unit in order.

4) Maintain the Chronicle Register recording all the activities of the Catechism unit.

DUTIES OF THE TREASURER

Accounts of Income and Expenditure of catechism unit and PTA should be maintained properly and present it monthly and annually and with the approval of the Parish Priest.

DUTIES OF TEACHERS

1) It is the responsibility of the Teachers to lead the students God has entrusted to them, each year, in faith and spiritual manner and deliver the Catechism class with due preparation in,.

2) Text books are a teaching guide for the Teachers.  Teachers should prepare and conduct the class will full knowledge of the lessons.

3) Importance should be given to THE HOLY BIBLE and teach the children BIBLE verses.

4) Accept the children as they are.  Accompany them with respect, give them due care and teach them to live in true faith.

5) Teachers should be aware of the rules of POCSO Act.

6)  Children shall not be physically or mentally harassed, tortured, abused, and bulled in any way.

7) Ensure that the children in each class do Sacrament of Reconciliation every month and receive Holy Communion.

8) Strive to attend daily Mass and receive Holy Eucharist.

9) Home visit of children by Class teachers will help in maintaining cordial relations with the parents.

10)  Advice students to bring their Holy Bible and Text Book every week.

11) Ensure that the children do their workbook/assignment CEP etc. correctly.

12) Other than Sunday, Catechism teachers should attend Holy mass along with their students in a weekday.

PTA

PTA is an Association helping the Catechism students jointly align with the Teachers & Parents in practising Catholic faith.

The Parish Priest is the President of the PTA.

1) Select two representatives from parents of each class. From the representatives select PTA Convenor and PTA Secretary.

2) The Catechism unit Treasurer will be the Treasurer of the PTA too.

3) Ensure that the Office bearers of the PTA are practicing Catholic faith and a leading role model in the society.

4) The PTA Executive Committee should meet atleast once in three months and analyse the activities of the Catechism unit.

5) PTA should extend all help and co-operate with the Catechism unit in executing faith formation effectively.

6) PTA representative should help in making the arrangements of Home Catechetics .

SPIRITUAL GUIDANCE

Get the guidance of people experienced in psychological field to help the children suffering from mental disorder or depression.
