Faith Formation, Archdiocese of Verapoly
Even though Verapoly Vicariate was formed in 1709, Catechetics was done through Verbal Catechetics and Home Catechetics. It was on 1962, the then Archbishop Dr. Joseph Attippetty now Servant of God appointed Msgr. Emmanuel Lopez as the first director of the Catechism Department who is now called ‘the Servant of God’. Under the guidance of the Archbishop Msgr. Emmanuel Lopez did various things to uplift the department. He published book ‘Vedapetheshasamshekam’ for Primary students and ‘Vazhium Jeevanum’ for High School students.
He was author of many books and ‘Alex Ammavan’ is one of his popular writings. As there were no Malayalam Hymns at that time. Msgr Emmanuel Lopez with his team Mr, Varghese Maliakkal, Mr Job, Mr George, Fr, Joseph Manikal invented titled ‘Swarga santhesham’ also introduced action songs.
Later when KCBC published books for Catechetics we followed that and later KRLCBC. We have a full time Director, Staff and voluntary staff as Promoters. At present Catechism Department is called as Commission for Faith Formation
